A Brief History of the Paralympic Games
The Paralympic Games (JP) are a multi-sport competition for athletes with physical, visual or mental disabilities. The Games are held every four years, following the Olympic Games, in the same host city. Created byLudwig Guttmannin 1948, the first “World Wheelchair and Amputee Games” were intended to rehabilitate veterans of the Second World War. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960.
The Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games , to be held from August 28 to September 8, will include 22 sports and 23 disciplines, with a total of 549 events spread over 269 sessions. The competitions will begin after the spectacular opening ceremony scheduled to take place at the bottom of the Champs-Elysées and at the Place de la Concorde, a unique setting in the heart of Paris.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, to be held from August 28 to September 8, 2024, will be a landmark event with 4,400 athletes representing 185 National Paralympic Committees. Over 11 days of competition, athletes will take part in 549 events across 22 sports, including para-athletics and para-swimming, which will punctuate almost the entire duration of the Games. Most of the venues will be the same as those used for the Olympic Games, offering spectators a continuous, immersive experience. The events will take place in iconic Parisian locations, such as the Eiffel Tower for cecifoot and Roland Garros for wheelchair tennis, adding a unique dimension to the competitions. The program will be particularly dense, with highlights spread over two weekends, including disciplines such as para-rowing and para-canoeing at Vaires-sur-Marne, and para-triathlon in the heart of Paris.
