Fencing event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Event description:
Fencing is a historic Olympic sport, part of the Olympic program since the Athens Games in 1896. Women joined fencing competitions at the Paris Games in 1924. Today, men and women compete in individual and team events using three types of weapon: foil, épée and sabre. Initially, the foil was the only weapon used by women, until the introduction of the women's épée in 1996 in Atlanta and the women's sabre in 2004 in Athens.

History in the midst of fencing
Among the legendary figures of fencing, Italian Nedo Nadi stands out. In 1912, aged just 18, he won a medal in foil. After being decorated for bravery during the First World War, he achieved a historic feat in 1920 in Antwerp, winning five gold medals: in individual foil and sabre. His record remains unsurpassed to this day.
